Kyle Brumett

Head Coach

Kyle Brumett joined the storied Wabash College basketball program as head coach in 2014. He is entering his eighth season at Wabash with a record of 98-72. He is 234-151 in 15 seasons as a head coach.

Brumett guided the Little Giants to a 17-9 overall record in 2019-2020 with a 13-5 mark in North Coast Athletic Conference games. The Little Giants finished second overall in the regular season conference standings, matching the squad's second-place finish in 2019. The Little Giants earned their 21st consecutive berth to the conference tournament. Junior guard Jack Davidson earned All-NCAC honors for the third time in his career and received Academic All-America honors for the second year in a row.

Brumett’s Little Giant team posted a 21-6 overall record in 2018-19, eclipsing the 20-win mark for a season for the first time since the 2010-2011 campaign. Wabash finished 14-4 in NCAC to tie for second place in the league standings. The Little Giants led Division III in free throw percentage, hitting 81.7 percent of their attempts. Wabash also ranked seventh in turnovers per game (10.1) and ninth in fewest turnovers committed with 274 in 27 games. Sophomore guard Jack Davidson was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-America First Team and the Google Cloud® Academic All-America Second Team. Davidson earned NCAC and Great Lakes Region Player of the Years, as well.

Brumett guided Wabash back to a 12-14 record (8-10 NCAC) in 2017-2018 after an 11-15 overall record and a 7-11 record in conference play in 2016-17. Davidson was named the NCA Freshman of the Year in 2017-2018 while earning Second Team All-NCAC honors. Freshman Colten Garland earned Honorable Mention All-NCAC honors and was voted the NCAC Newcomer of the Year for the 2016-2017 season.

Brumett's 2015-16 Little Giants finished 13-13 for the year. The team ranked 15th in the nation in three-point field goal defense (.301), 24th in rebounding margin (+6.5), and 31st in defensive rebounds (29.42 rpg). Senior Daniel Purvlicis earned First Team All-NCAC honors for the second consecutive season and was selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honoree. He was a finalist for a roster spot on the 2016 Reese's® Division III College Basketball All-Star Game. Wabash earned a berth in the NCAC Tournament for the 17th consecutive season after finishing 7-11 in conference play.

Brumett led Wabash to an 18-9 overall record, an improvement of 10 wins from the previous year's final record in 2014-15. The Little Giants finished third in the NCAC standings with a mark of 12-6 and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament after a 69-60 home win over sixth-seeded Allegheny. Wabash posted wins over every team in conference, including victories over nationally-ranked Ohio Wesleyan and Wooster, as well as DePauw University. All three teams were conference tournament semifinalists and NCAA DIII tournament selections. Daniel Purvlicis and Kasey Oetting earned All-NCAC honors. Purvlicis was a First Team selection and finished 14th in the nation in field goal shooting at 61.3 percent. Oetting earned Honorable Mention honors. Kyle Aiton finished second in the nation in free throw shooting at 92.1 percent. Wabash ranked third in the nation rebounding margin with a mark of +10.4 per game over its opponents.

Brumett came to Wabash from Defiance College where he served as the men’s basketball coach and assistant athletics director. In six seasons, Brumett guided Defiance to a 103-57 record, a share of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title in 2014, and won the HCAC championship and earned an NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in 2010.

Prior to Defiance, Coach Brumett spent two seasons at Lakeland College, where his teams posted record of 33-22 and won the 2008 Northern Athletics Conference championship. Brumett spent seven years as an assistant at DePauw University, helping the Tigers to a 121-62 record and Southern Collegiate Athletics Conference titles in 2002, 2003, and 2006 along with NCAA Tournament berths in 2002 and 2006. He coached at the University of Southern Indiana as an assistant for one year. USI finished 26-6 and was ranked number one in the nation for most of the season.

Brumett graduated from Hanover College in 1998 with a degree in physical education. He served as a student-assistant coach for the Panthers, working with former head coach Mike Beitzel. Brumett earned a master’s degree in recreation and sports management in 2004 from Indiana State University.

Brumett is a native of Jeffersonville, Indiana and graduated from Jeffersonville High School in 1994. He and his wife, Steffanie, have three sons — Max, Marcus, and Monte.
